Paris in summer is great for exploring by bike. The Hotel La Motte Picquet certainly recommends discovering the capital’s beautiful monuments via pedal power. And while you’re in the saddle, why not participate in the Fête du Vélo (bike festival) on June 2nd, 2019?
Paris, a cycling friendly city
Cycling has become the preferred mode of travel for many Parisians and visitors to the city. With more than 200 km of bike paths and 70 km of bus lanes accessible to cyclists, Paris makes it easy to explore its treasures on two wheels.
A multitude of routes
Thanks to the numerous routes available you’ll have a wide choice of ways to discover the City of Light and its many monuments. The free ‘Paris à Vélo’ map available in the capital’s tourist information centres will give you an overview of the most interesting itineraries. Free two-hour tours of about 24 km are also offered by the Paris Rando Vélo association, taking place every Friday evening and every 3rd Sunday of the month.
Rent a bike to tour the city
A self-service bike sharing system called Vélib is available in Paris 24/7. Are you planning to visit with your family? Specific Vélibs for children up to 8 years old are available in four different sizes. You can find passes and all the stations on the Vélib website.
Don’t miss the bike festival on June 2nd, 2019
On June 2nd you can take part in one of the processions of cyclists that are scheduled to leave several points around the Ile-de-France region, heading to the heart of Paris to converge in a final parade that will culminate at 13:30 on the lawns of the Esplanade des Invalides. This is where all participants can relax and enjoy the conviviality of a giant picnic. Remember to bring a well-stocked picnic basket!
