Situated in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, on the left bank of the River Seine, and dedicated to the art and cultures of the indigenous people of Africa, Asia, America, and the Oceania, until July the 24th, 2016, the Galerie Jardin of the Musée du quai Branly is host to a very interesting exhibition entitled: Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands.
In an attempt to shed light on the richness of arts and cultures in the Marquesas Islands between the late 18th century and the early 19th century, the exhibition Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands puts on show more than 300 fascinating pieces and works by artists who were fascinated and attracted by the Polynesian culture during that period, including the French Post-Impressionist artist Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (1848 – 1903).
Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands will also give its visitors the chance to discover the vitality of the contemporary art in the Marquesas Islands.
The exhibition Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands is curated by Carol Ivory, a professor at Washington State University and a specialist in the Marquesas Islands.
