Rediscover The Crypt At Notre Dame de Paris
Posted in Discover Paris le
Not all visitors to Paris are aware of what lies beneath Notre Dame Cathedral. To be honest, this is probably true for a lot of Parisian residents too. We all recognise the grand cathedral and know the stories of hunchbacks watching over the city. But, there are also plenty of historical stories from the archaeological crypt under the ground.
This area first opened to the public for tours in the 1980s. But, this year it has been off-limits. The tragic fire that threatened to destroy the cathedral meant that there was no public access to the site for the last 18 months. The good news is that those restrictions have been lifted and we can now head back underground to learn more about the area in the Middle-Ages. This link to the past is more significant than ever now we know what we could have lost. So, make sure to pay a visit.
