The new normal of social distancing and Covid-related restrictions mean that this year's Christmas markets aren’t quite what they could have been. We may have a more limited choice this year in where we go can go. But, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t beautiful Christmas markets in Paris where we can shop and get into the festive spirits responsibly. Here are some of the best Parisian markets for 2020.
Hotel de Ville Christmas Market.
Hotel de Ville is taking a brilliant approach to their festive celebrations this year, instead of offering their usual affair, visitors get a stripped back version perfect for socially-distanced Christmas shopping. There is even a free carousel to entertain the kids and provide some extra festive joy.
Place des Abbesses in Montmartre.
The streets of Montmartre are always a great place to go in winter to see Paris at its finest, especially for the views over the city. This winter, there are plans for a small market full of the scents and tastes of a French Christmas. That means mulled wine, chestnuts roasting on an open fire, and more.
Saint-Germain-des-Pres Christmas Market.
Next, we have one of the best Parisian Christmas markets for photographic opportunities. We’re talking about “snow” covered roofs on cute chalets in front of the stunning St-Germain-des-Prés Church. This is also a great opportunity to get some craft goods along with chocolate and alcohol.
Cluny Museum Christmas Market.
2020 is the ideal year to head to a smaller market that doesn’t always get the most business. A great example is this small offering at the Cluny Museum. This is a great way to extend a cultural day out in the city and get some incredible Parisian produce for the holidays.
Gare Saint-Lazare Christmas Market.
Finally, this is something a bit different and one for the teens and millennials more than the families and those after a traditional Christmas. There are a few modern stalls here that are out to entertain and provide interesting Christmas gifts. Disney and Lego have featured in the past.
