On the Rue de Verneuil, in the very elegant and intellectual 7th arrondissement of Paris, the Maison Gainsbourg certainly stands out, being covered in fan graffiti and tags. The house where the singer, actor and author Serge Gainsbourg resided from 1969 to 1991 has been transformed into a museum and now also hosts a piano bar. Discover Le Gainsbarre during your stay at the Hotel de la Motte Picquet.
In the heart of the Maison Gainsbourg Museum
The Maison Gainsbourg invites you to discover the place where Serge Gainsbourg spent a good part of his life, first with Jane Birkin, then with his successive companions and children. You step inside the intimate world of the multi-talented creator thanks to an audio guide and the digital immersive experience created around the visit route. The museum’s reception space doubles as a bookstore and is also where you will find Le Gainsbarre. Designed as a piano bar in the spirit of those in which Serge began his career, it’s also a hybrid cultural space.
Not just a piano bar
Le Gainsbarre may well become the heart of the museum. A restaurant from breakfast to dinner, as well as a cocktail bar, it will also host many events such as concerts, movie screenings, workshops and conferences. It opens in September, so when you visit Paris, remember to consult the program beforehand. To listen to an artiste at the piano while sipping a cocktail or to have an inspiring breakfast meeting with colleagues will be two of the ways you can pick up on the Gainsbarre vibe.
For fans of the great singer/songwriter and those who wish to discover the extent of his talent and his work, a visit to La Maison Gainsbourg will be well worthwhile. Extend the experience by spending some time in Le Gainsbarre, where his presence will seem almost tangible.
